Qualche settimana fa è stato violentemente attaccato da un gruppo di Femen. Il suo contegno esemplare ha fatto il giro del mondo, commuovendo milioni di persone.
Così è partita in America una petizione in difesa di Mons. Léonard, ad opera del sito CatholicVote. Una bellissima idea che ha già raggiunto decine di migliaia di firme.
Per comprendere il ritmo di crescita, appena tre giorni fa la quota era di 39.466.
Questo fa capire che sono in molti in America a non condividere l’odio verso i cattolici. E soprattutto le idee di un laicismo sfrenato e aggressivo.
Per votare è sufficiente andare su questa pagina e inserire tre dati: nome, cognome, un indirizzo mail. Noi lo abbiamo fatto.
Ecco la traduzione della petizione:
Caro arcivescovo Léonard,
noi abbiamo sottoscritto questa petizione per assicurarvi le nostre preghiere e per dare sostegno al vostro umile gesto di difesa dell’istituzione del matrimonio, a fronte dell’assalto discriminatorio e vergognoso al quale siete stato sottoposto il 18 aprile.
Qui in America, gli attivisti omosessuali hanno attaccato allo stesso modo i conferenzieri, la Santa Eucaristia e il clero per il loro coraggio nel difendere l’istituzione da sempre consacrata del matrimonio e il piano della natura per gli uomini e le donne. La vostra preghiera umile e carica di significato è servita sia come un campanello d’allarme, sia come un modello per tutti i vescovi, per i sacerdoti e per i laici di tutto il mondo. Grazie per la vostra testimonianza della verità della nostra fede e dell’ordine della Creazione!
Ci uniamo a voi nella preghiera per coloro che hanno realizzato questi attacchi insensati, e siamo pronti ad assistere non solo voi, ma ogni vescovo, ogni sacerdote, o fedele cattolico assalito per la propria difesa pubblica della complementarietà naturale di uomini e donne, della dignità del matrimonio, e del diritto di ogni cattolico o di ogni cittadino pieno di fede di affermare queste verità negli spazi pubblici.
Mi congratulo per il vostro coraggio e per la vostra grazia. Avete il sostegno e le preghiere di milioni di persone in tutto il mondo. Che Dio vi benedica, e che Dio conceda a tutti noi la Grazia necessaria per testimoniare fedelmente il Vangelo in tutto ciò che facciamo.

Support Our Bishops for Defending Marriage
[Background: On April 18, radicalized and hate-filled feminists assaulted Brussels Catholic Archbishop Andre-Joseph Leonard during his public presentation on the nature and dignity of marriage and human sexuality. The topless homosexual activists physically assaulted the Archbishop, doused him with water while cursing and shouting bigoted slurs to shame and silence him. The Archbishop bowed his head and prayed while under attack. The water bottles used to assault him were similar to those used to collect holy water at Lourdes, shaped in the image of Our Lady. Following the assault the Archbishop took one of the bottles and kissed the image of the Blessed Mother.]

Dear Archbishop Leonard,
We the undersigned write to assure you of our prayers and support for your humble defense of the institution of marriage in the face of the bigoted and shameful assault you were subjected to on April 18.
Here in America, homosexual activists have likewise attacked speakers, the Holy Eucharist, and clergy for their courage in defending the time-honored institution of marriage and nature’s plan for men and women. Your prayer-filled and humble response has served as both a wake-up call and a model for all Bishops, priests, and laity around the world. Thank you for your witness to the truths of our Faith and the order of Creation!
We join you in praying for those who carried out these senseless attacks, and stand ready to assist not only you, but ANY Bishop, priest, or faithful Catholic assaulted for their public defense of the natural complementarity of men and women, the dignity of marriage, and the right of every Catholic or faith-filled citizen to affirm these truths in the public square.
I applaud your courage and grace. You have the support and prayers of millions around the world. May God bless you, and may God grant us all the grace needed to faithfully witness to the Gospel in all that we do.
